General
Information
-
Our Basecamp Raja Ampat offers four types of accommodation:
- A private room with a double bed
- A private room with double bed + extra bed
- 3-Bed Dormitory (single beds)
- 6-Bed Dormitory (bunk beds)Our rooms are equipped with mosquito nets, fan and air-con, an en-suite bathroom with hot water, and a patio area with a hammock. We also provide clean linen, towels, shampoo, and soap.
Included in your accommodation are breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as complimentary coffee, tea, water, and fruit throughout the day. The buffet style meals offer a variety of local and western cuisine. If you let us know in advance, we can accommodate most dietary needs and restrictions.
For dive trips, snacks and fruit are available after the first dive, lunch is served after the second. For night dives, dinner is normally served after the dive. Coffee, tea and water are available throughout the day on the boat.

Scuba Republic’s Basecamp in Raja Ampat is surrounded by rainforest and spectacular nature, approximately 20min by car from the Regency’s capital Waisai.
We have an open, round-roofed common area, a lounge deck under the shady trees by the beach, and a private jetty where you can enjoy amazing sunsets with a cold beer.
Our premises are located right on the beach with a beautiful house reef, perfect for snorkeling. Outdoor showers give you the opportunity to rinse off the saltwater before you relax on our bean bags.
Complimentary coffee, tea, water, and fruit are available in the common area throughout the day. If you fancy a different snack or crave a cigarette, our neighbour has a little kiosk that sells an ever-changing selection of (mostly edible) items. For anything more, you would have to go to Waisai.
Our staff can help you arrange a ride to Waisai or excursions to local attractions like Piaynemo, Blue River, or Bird Watching. We also provide laundry service for a reasonable price.
There is no WiFi available, but for travellers who wish to stay connected to the rest of the world, we recommend purchasing a local SIM card. SIM cards are fairly cheap and so are packages including the internet. Signal around here is pretty good with Telkomsel.
All rooms, patios, the common area, and the lounge deck are equipped with multiple power plugs (220V/50Hz with round two-prong plug). However, electricity is provided by a generator and therefore subject to the occasional power surge.
Please kindly understand that Raja Ampat is a remote collection of islands located in the Eastern part of Indonesia, and is not a city, so the comfort level and the availability of things are local-compromised, and you might not be able to find familiar luxuries. We try our best to accommodate your needs, though.
-
All accommodation includes pick-up and drop-off from Waisai at the beginning and at the end of your stay.
As of June 2019, Raja Ampat does not offer any public transport apart from the ferry arriving from Sorong. From Waisai to Sorong there are two ferries per day leaving at 9am and 2pm. Tickets can be purchased at the harbour.
Transfer between islands can be arranged by the homestays or resorts you’re staying at.
Waisai is about a 20min ride away from the resort. If you would like to visit town, transport can be arranged for a surcharge.
If you would like to explore a bit further, we can help you rent a scooter.
-
We accept cash (main currencies), credit cards (3% surcharge), or bank transfers.
The only ATMs in Raja Ampat are in Waisai. They accept most credit and debit cards with VISA, but there is no guarantee. Please also be aware that they don’t always work and occasionally run out of money.
ATMs here have a withdrawal limit of IDR 2,500,000, but some will only give you IDR 1,250,000.
There are no money exchange facilities in Raja Ampat.
Dive Center
Information
-
Our dive center is fully stocked with everything you need to give you the best possible dive experience.
Full dive equipment and dive computers are available for rent.
BCDs and wetsuits come in sizes XS, S, M, L, and XL, booties range from size 5 to 12. Although we have a wide selection of sizes at our dive center, not all of them come in equal numbers. If you would like to be certain your size is available upon your arrival, please let us know in advance.
Tanks are Aluminium 12l with DIN and INT valves. However, there is a limited supply of DIN tanks and we recommend bringing an adapter if your regulator requires DIN.
There is no Nitrox available.
-
All dives are boat dives. Typically, we leave around 8:30 am on one of our three boats for 2-3 dives. Some of the best dive sites Raja Ampat has to offer are practically on our doorstep – only 15-20min away by boat.
Raja Ampat is well known for its currents, but we make sure that we choose dive sites that are appropriate for our divers based on their certification level, experience, and comfort. We check weather, tides and currents when we plan and check the currents upon arriving at the dive sites.

-
All certified divers must show proof of certification and have medical clearance for diving. We will need any and all medical questions and concerns addressed and cleared before your arrival. Our staff or the local doctors are not qualified to decide whether an individual is fit to dive.
Raja Ampat is still a very remote destination and the medical facilities are limited. First aid can be given at the local hospital, but for anything more serious an evacuation must be considered. Therefore, full travel insurance that covers possible evacuations and diving accidents, is recommended for all our guests.

Our experienced dive instructors are looking forward to introducing you to the fascinating world of diving or help you develop advanced underwater skills.
